Thankfully when getting started in puppy
potty training we don't have to worry about using an actual
potty, but instead we just need to worry about the back yard.
You will also be happy to learn that puppy
potty training is not as hard as you think. It can actually be a
pleasant experience and will help you and your puppy bond with one
another. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship and it all
starts right here.
Make sure you start potty training your
puppy as soon as he or she arrives in your home. Putting it off will
only make it harder down the road. Remember to have patience at this
time as well, your home is new and strange. Your puppy may be nervous,
plus little puppies don't have very good control over their bodily
functions yet so accidents will most likely happen.
To make things easier on you both, make sure
that meal time happens about the same time day. Also be sure not to
feed your puppy or give her water too close to bedtime. This will make
it more difficult for your puppy to not have any accidents overnight.
A routine is critical. If your puppy can get
used to going to bed, getting up, eating and going potty at about the
same time each day then it will be much easier.
To help make puppy potty training go more
smoothly take your puppy outside into your back yard or for a nice
stroll when you wake up in the mornings. Do the same thing about 10-15
minutes after your puppy eats or drinks. Then take your puppy out to go
potty again right before you head off to bed for the night.
If you take your puppy out and nothing
happens, wait about 10 to 15 minutes then take your puppy back inside
and put her in her crate. Try again in about 15 to 20 minutes. Your
puppy will need to go sooner or later.
Don't depend on just taking your dog out a
couple times a day to work by itself. Your puppy needs to know what it
